I've been listening to Ani most of the night- interrupted by a little State Radio and Ben Harper- and it's time to write a blog about Ani. Seriously, how has this not happened yet? Ahhhh!!! Maybe I will run into her in New Orleans. How neat would that be!?!
Even Prince likes her: Prince Talking About Ani Difranco. It's refreshing to hear someone appreciate her rather than be dismissive or threatened. You don't have to like her music, but I do think she deserves respect for her talent and hard work.
Ani Difranco: Aside from being an amazing musician, she started her own record label, Righteous Babe Records, and produces music for several other independent musicians as well. This is a little about Ani: Biography. Thanks to Danah Boyd, here is where you can go for a non-annoying website that lists nearly all of her songs and lyrics. I often visit the site multiple times a week, even though I have much of her music and lyrics memorized (I like to be precise and know that I got it just right if I am quoting it). Danah's main website is dedicated to: examining social media, youth practices, tensions between public and private, social network sites, and other intersections between technology and society. She deserves a shout-out-- it's an interesting field and I feel I owe her at least that for the amount of time I search the Ani lyrics page.
Here are a few of my favorite songs:
Any Day
Falling is Like This
Fire Door
Grey
Hell Yeah
Hour Follows Hour
In the Margins
Not a Pretty Girl
Untouchable Face
Well, there's always time for more Ani posts, right? I'll leave you with these then, for now...
